Renovation of a 300-year-old ryokan into an art hotel. “SHIROIYA HOTEL”where you can enjoy artworks of museum quality from around the world.

About an hour ride on the Shinkansen and local train from Tokyo. “SHIROIYA HOTEL” is located in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture.

The ryokan, which had been in business for about 300 years since the Edo period and closed down in 2008, was loved by many artists and has been reborn as a new hotel.

From the exterior to each room, the entire hotel is filled with art by various artists.

Sou Fujimoto renovated the ‘70s building (HERITAGE TOWER with 17 rooms) and also designed a new building (GREEN TOWER with 8rooms.)

Each room has a different artwork, and four of the 25 rooms have been designated as special rooms.

Michele De Lucchi, Jasper Morrison, Leandro Erlich, and Sou Fujimoto designed the rooms with their own unique ideas. Staying in a one-of-a-kind work of art is sure to be a great time for fans.

In addition, various other artists' works are displayed in public spaces.

Some of the art can only be viewed by guests, so be sure to stay and enjoy it.

The restaurant and lounge, as well as fruit tart specialty store, bakery, coffee shop, and weekend-only bar will satisfy your appetite for food.

Depending on the season, you can also ask us to arrange various activities such as hiking, canoeing, tea, etc. In addition to your hotel stay, why not also enjoy sightseeing in Gunma Prefecture?
