A winter tradition in Nagasaki. Lantern Festival

Nagasaki City in Nagasaki Prefecture is located in the Kyushu region.

Every year during the Chinese New Year, the Nagasaki Lantern Festival is held there.

Originally, the festival was held at Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown because it was started by the Chinese people living in Nagasaki to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The approximately 15,000 lanterns used in the festival were purchased from China.

In addition to Chinatown, nearby arcades and streets are also brightly decorated.

Because of its splendor, it has become a major event that attracts more than one million tourists during the festival.

The best time to see the lantern decorations is at night, but parades and other events are also held during the day.

If you are visiting Nagasaki during the Chinese New Year, be sure to stop by the Lantern Festival.
